South Greenland - This is where the country got its name. Imagine a remote country, surrounded by ice, with green mountainsides and lush meadows. In the summertime, you can literally travel from icy wastes to an arctic Garden of Eden.

In the far south, there are famous peaks that attract mountain climbers from around the world. Other travellers will be thrilled at the sight of steep mountains reflected in the still waters of the fjords. Deep within the fjords lie the ruins of Viking villages and age-old Inuit settlements, monasteries from the early days of Christianity and large Inuit common houses that bear witness to prosperity and power.

In South Greenland's countless fjords you will discover huge glaciers, many of which are active. During the spring the pack ice comes - large floes of ice that are driven with the currents from the Polar Sea located to the northeast. Within a few days, the floes can surround offshore islands and cover the fjords and sea with a blanket of ice. Welcome to the southern Arctic, a region with plenty of fresh air, majestic wilderness, cold ice, and warm-hearted people.
